2026 World Cup Fan Embassy information guide

Atlanta is one of the cultural and economic capitals of the American South, shaped by civil rights history, Black culture, music, film and TV, and rapid growth. Atlanta is also one of the fastest-growing soccer cities in North America. The World Cup stadium is located just west of downtown and is easily accessible by public transit, though, like many large American cities, is largely car-oriented.

Know before you go:

  • Keep an eye out for random chicken wing bones on the street—they’re everywhere. It’s become such a local running joke that there’s even an Instagram account for them. Odds are, they were lemon pepper wet—the unofficial official wing flavor of Atlanta.

  • Looking for the LGBTQ+ core of the city? Start at the rainbow crosswalks at 10th Street and Piedmont Avenue in Midtown. From there, you’ll find a dense cluster of LGBTQ+-owned bars, restaurants, and coffee shops. Grab a copy of The Georgia Voice for current events and a deeper look at what’s happening around the city.

NEIGHBOORHOODS

Little Five Points

  • Near the Reynoldstown/Inman Park MARTA station, this is Atlanta’s alternative core. Vintage shops, street art, and a proper local feel. You’ll also find Brewhouse Cafe here—widely considered one of the best soccer bars in the country.

Decatur

  • Just outside the city but easily accessible via MARTA. Centered around a walkable square packed with local restaurants, bars, and shops. Easy, welcoming, and a great place to spend a full day.

Midtown

  • The most walkable part of Atlanta. Home to major spots like the High Museum, Fox Theatre, and Piedmont Park. Also the heart of the city’s LGBTQ+ scene, with plenty of bars and nightlife. Accessible via North Avenue, Midtown, and Arts Center stations.

East Atlanta Village

  • A bit out of the way and not directly on MARTA rail, but worth it. Gritty, music-driven, and full of dive bars. This is where you go for live shows and a more underground vibe.

Virginia Highland

  • Right along the Beltline Eastside Trail. Mostly residential, but Virginia Ave and North Highland are lined with great bars, restaurants, and patios. Ideal for a slower afternoon or casual drinks.

West End

  • South of downtown and changing quickly. Once industrial, now home to breweries, food halls, and creative spaces thanks to the Beltline Westside Trail. Accessible via West End MARTA station.

Doraville

  • A bit outside the core, but one of the best food areas in the metro. If you’re craving something specific, you’ll probably find it here. Easily reached via the Doraville MARTA station.

Sweet Auburn

  • Just east of downtown and rich with history. Accessible via King Memorial station and the streetcar. Home to key Civil Rights landmarks and a strong concentration of Black-owned businesses along Edgewood Ave.
